WEATHER TIDBITS
BLOCKED: Some of us will be stuck in a cool and rainy pattern this week thanks to an omega block, which is a weather pattern that keeps unsettled weather in one area while high pressure/pleasant weather dominates another. In this situation, cooler temperatures and widespread rain will be likely in the East, as well as parts of the intermountain West. Snow will be possible in the higher elevations of the northern and central Rockies, and excessive rain will be possible in some of the lower elevations in the region. Meanwhile, the north-central U.S will experience dry conditions and warm temperatures compared to the average. The blocking pattern is expected to break down by midweek.
FROM MY KITCHEN
Hi from Colorado! (I’m not actually sure if anyone will see this newsletter because the WiFi is predictably not the best in the mountains…but hi anyway!) I’m writing this while watching rain approach over the snow-capped mountains. A little more sun would be nice, but this view isn’t half bad either! I absolutely love visiting Colorado and experiencing weather in the mountains, because it changes so quickly and the clouds are phenomenal. It’s a great place to be a weather nerd.
We’re in Colorado on a mountain getaway/fly fishing trip because, in a plot twist, I’ve become someone who loves to go on fly fishing trips. Never thought I’d be a fisherwoman, but it’s so meditative to stand in the river and enjoy nature! And it’s fun to catch a fish or two, of course (and then promptly release it back to where it came from because #fisharefriendsnotfood (aka I just despise the taste of fish)).
There’s something special about enjoying a delicious meal after spending the day in the fresh mountain air, and there’s something even more special about being able to take one or two of those meals outside. We snacked on peanut butter pretzels by the river, drank coffee on the deck, and ate giant breakfast burritos with a view of the sun-soaked mountains. When the rain came and the winds picked up, we had a fire, pasta, and a somewhat absurd amount of cheese to warm us back up inside.

Those first few meals outside after a long, cold winter are sweet as can be. I hope you’re able to take your lunch break outside or find an outdoor patio to have a drink on this week. Food just tastes better when it’s enjoyed in nature!

Nice German Brown Trout, Emily. But you hate the taste of fish?? I take just enough to eat then catch and release. Love fresh brook trout! I don't fly fish, glad you do!
