Step aside, summer nights
Fall nights are back and as fabulous as ever!
Good morning! It’s Monday the 13th, which seems even spookier than a Friday the 13th, right? Wishing you a week with minimal spookiness and maximum fall fun!

THE WEATHER THIS WEEK
If you live on the East Coast, the odds are good you heard someone mention a nor’easter over the past few days. This storm system, which is moving northeast along the coast (hence the name nor’easter), will continue to bring heavy rain, strong winds, and high surf and tides to the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast today. Coastal erosion, flooding from rainfall, and power outages will be possible as well. The storm will begin to head back out to sea tomorrow, but unsettled conditions are expected to linger across parts of coastal New England through at least midweek.

Meanwhile, coastal rain and mountain snow will impact the West Coast early this week. Rain will progress from the coastal Northwest today all the way down to Southern California by tonight. The rain could become heavy over Southern California tomorrow, and the excessive rainfall could lead to flash flooding. Snow is expected in the higher elevations of the Cascades down into the Sierra Nevadas.
Inland, parts of the Southwest and central Rockies region will pick up heavy rain early this week. Rain and storms are also expected to develop over parts of the Central Plains tonight into tomorrow before moving east by midweek. Overall, a bit of a soggy workweek for a lot of the country! I have some fall recipes linked below that will hopefully help you make the best of a rainy couple of days 🙂
FROM MY KITCHEN
Summer nights are obviously wonderful. They are sacred and humid and there are fireflies flitting around. They get a lot of hype, and they live up to it! We love a summer night.
BUT. Fall nights are also fabulous, and not to be forgotten about! They can be chilly, but there are flannel-lined jackets to wear and bonfires to sit around and stars to gaze at. Plus, there are less mosquitoes than during the summer (although they still somehow manage to find me).
I had a couple of great fall nights over the weekend. The first fall night was spent inside, sitting near the fireplace (and watching a sports team lose). The second fall night was spent outside, sitting under the stars in the countryside (and watching a different sports team lose). Sports teams aside, fall nights have the potential to be as snug as can be - provided you have the right food and drinks to enjoy, of course. While I was sitting inside by the fire, I was drinking from a steaming mug of blueberry rooibos tea. While I was outside under the stars, I was sipping from a glass of good red wine that kept me warm once the chill settled in.

Other good fall evening eats this week included a sweet potato/carrot/apple soup and some homemade caramel corn. Perfect for fall and oh so tasty.

This week’s newsletter is all about fall nights, but I’ve been spending as much time outside as I can during the day. The colorful leaves against a blue backdrop and long dog walks in the crisp air are filling my cup! I hope you’re able to spend some time outside this week enjoying the best of fall as well.

Not a good nighs for our beloved Detroit sports teams. I was on the road through the Maritime provinces. Loved Nova Scotia especially Cape Breton the best. Also coming back drove up Mt. Washington road. Definitely white knuckle drive but awesome views from the top of the mountain. Thanks for your news letter!
